5 Tips to Help Unplug

Unplugging from technology and taking a break from screens can be beneficial for mental health and overall well-being.

Here are some tips and ideas to help you unplug and LookUp successfully!

1. Make a Plan

 

  • Set Boundaries:

    • Establish specific times during the day when you will be unplugged, such as during meals, before bedtime, or during designated breaks.

    • Use features like "Do Not Disturb" on your devices to minimize notifications during your unplugged times.

    • Create Tech-Free Zones:

      • Designate certain areas in your home or specific activities (e.g., the bedroom, dining table, or during family time) as tech-free zones to promote face-to-face interactions.

    • Set Screen Time Limits:

      • Use the screen time tracking features on your devices to set daily limits for specific apps or overall screen time

  • Plan Offline Activities:

    • Schedule activities that don't involve screens, such as reading a physical book, going for a walk, practicing mindfulness, or engaging in a hobby.

    • Use Analog Tools:

      • Consider using analog tools like a notebook, planner, or physical maps instead of digital screens to reduce screen time.

2. Remove Temptations and Get Busy

Studies show that by hiding or putting away temptations, likelihood of success increases

  • Turn off notifications

  • Put away gaming devices, remote controls and tablets

  • Keep phone on silent or "do not disturb"

3. Be Intentional

  • Prioritize Real-Life Connections:

    • Make an effort to spend more time with friends and family in person rather than relying on digital communication.

  • Engage in Outdoor Activities:

    • Spend time outdoors and connect with nature. Activities like hiking, gardening, or simply enjoying a walk in the park can be rejuvenating.

  • Practice Mindfulness and Meditation:

    • Incorporate mindfulness and meditation into your routine to help you stay present and reduce the urge to constantly check your devices.

  • Communicate Your Intentions:

    •  Let friends, family, and colleagues know about your intention to unplug, so they can respect your boundaries and support your efforts.

    • Everything online will most likely still be online tomorrow

    • The amazing benefits you will gain from living unplugged

  • Prioritize Real-Life Connections

    • Make an effort to spend more time with friends and family in person rather than relying on digital communication.

  • Enjoy Yourself

    • Spend time outdoors and connect with nature. Activities like hiking, gardening, or simply enjoying a walk in the park can be rejuvenating.

    • Practice Mindfulness in your routine to help you stay present and reduce the urge to constantly check your devices.

    • Try something new that you've always wanted to try

  • Challenge Yourself

    • See how long you can go without reaching for your phone or device

5. Reflect

  • Observe This Experience

    • How has this time affected you and your mental health?

    • What was easy about the experience?

    • What was hard about the experience?

    • What did you learn and gain?

    • Can you do it again?
